Family photos...EXCITING...but the maybe not so fun part? What do we WEAR??
I think the biggest struggle I hear when it comes to getting family photos done is not knowing where to start when looking for outfits for your family. I get it-It can be overwhelming, daunting and stressful.
You may not know it but the styling of your families wardrobe brings your personalities to light, creates visual interest and shows movement during your session. Make sure the outfits you choose are YOU and jive well with your chosen session location. This is where I come into the picture...by finding out your families style, hobbies and vision for your session I can help create a wardrobe that will compliment your personalities but also give you those drool worthy tones and textures that flow together.
The biggest tip I give my families is to first pick a color palette that coordinates with your chosen session location and then find moms outfit first. Moms you DESERVE to put yourself first and LOVE what you are wearing-remember that!. Once mom's outfit has been decided on, work to find pieces for the rest of the family that mesh with your chosen color palette. Keep in mind the setting of your session, you don't want to be wearing heels to a beach session.
Accessorize!
Accessories can really help add texture, visual interest and tie an outfit together. Think... a trendy hat for mom, a fringe wrap around belt for a dress, leggings for little girls or a cute vest for little boys.
Layers & Texture
Adding layers like button ups, cardigans, scarves or a vest can help add texture and spice up your outfits.
Don't be afraid to add in a pop of color or a splash of pattern to add in some flair. Make sure to avoid being too matchy matchy, neon colors, logos or too many bold patterns that do not fit well together. Babies and toddlers should be in well fitting outfits so nothing is too bulky or buldging.
